1. What we collect
Your account
You can use Radara without an account at all — no sign-up required to browse. If you choose to create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. The password itself is never stored. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only the unique identifier those providers share with us — no additional profile data from them.
Your phone and contacts (optional)
You may optionally add a phone number to your profile so friends can find you. It is stored encrypted, is not shown publicly, and is not verified. If you use "invite from contacts", the matching is privacy-preserving: your device only ever sends us salted, one-way hashes of your contacts' emails or phone numbers to check which are already on Radara — we never receive, store, or upload your actual contact list. You can remove your phone number at any time in Settings.
Your location
To show you what is happening nearby, we use your approximate location — snapped to a coarse zone of around 250 metres, not your exact position. We do not store a history of where you have been.
Precise location is used in two specific situations, and only when you choose them:
- SOS / safety circles. When you start an SOS, your live location is shared with the trusted contacts in your chosen circle and recorded as an encrypted trail for that session — so they can find you if something goes wrong. You can stop sharing at any time, which ends the session immediately. Coordinates are encrypted at rest and are never visible to the public or to anyone outside your circle.
- Pinning a signal precisely. When posting a signal you can optionally attach your exact position to place the pin more accurately. If you skip this, the signal is placed at your region's centre instead.
Signals you post
The content, type, approximate location, and timestamp of each signal you drop. Signals auto-expire and are encrypted at rest. If you post a community missing-person appeal, any photo you attach is stored to show the appeal and the last-seen point is blurred to a wide area; you (or the person featured) can have it removed at any time — see our Terms.
Government-official verification (optional)
If you represent a public institution and want your signals to carry a verified badge — and the ability to send an alert to every region of your country — you can apply to be verified. You submit your institution, your role or title, an official work email, and a photo of an official ID. We use these solely to confirm you are who you say you are. Your ID photo is never shown publicly: a reviewer opens it through a short-lived, expiring link, and it is deleted as soon as your application is decided (and immediately if you delete your account first). Your official email is stored encrypted and is never shown to anyone. If you are approved, only your institution's title and a verified badge become visible next to the signals you post — your ID and email never do.
To protect against impersonation of authorities, if an account repeatedly posts messages that read like official government communications without being verified, we may ask it to confirm whether it represents an institution. Declining pauses that account's ability to post signals until it verifies — reading, confirming, and safety features are never affected.
Safety and operational data
During an SOS we log the device model alongside each location breadcrumb to help responders understand the context. To keep the service running and safe, we also record with requests to our servers a device identifier, the device model, the app version, and the IP address — used only for security, abuse-prevention, and child-safety investigations, never for advertising or cross-app tracking. IP and user-agent are stored encrypted; the device identifier is an app-generated value, not a hardware or advertising ID. If you enable notifications, we store a push token so we can deliver alerts — including official nationwide alerts — to your device. We also keep rate-limit counters to stop abuse.
2. What we do not do
- We do not run advertising trackers, sell your data, or build profiles across apps.
- We do not build a social graph, a follower network, or a behavioural feed.
- We do not track your location in the background. Precise location is collected only while an SOS is actively running (with a persistent notification you control) or at the exact moment you choose to pin a signal.
- We never publish anyone's precise coordinates. SOS location is visible only to the circle you personally chose.
3. How we protect your data
All content is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and transmitted over TLS. You only ever receive decrypted content you are authorised to see — the platform never exposes ciphertext to clients. Encryption keys are managed in a dedicated secret store and are never embedded in our apps.
4. Who we share data with
We share data in three situations only: signals you choose to broadcast are public by design; infrastructure providers who host and operate the platform are bound by data-processing agreements; and we disclose to law enforcement or regulatory authorities when required by law or to protect the safety of users, including child-safety escalations (see our Child Safety Standards).
5. How long we keep it
Signals expire automatically. SOS sessions end the moment you stop sharing, or on timeout; the encrypted breadcrumb trail is retained only for safety and forensic purposes and is purged on a defined schedule. Any ID document you submit for official verification is deleted as soon as the application is reviewed, and in any case when you delete your account. In-app notification records are pruned on a rolling basis. You can delete your account in-app at any time — this removes your profile, circle links, verification records, notification inbox, and active SOS data. You may also request a copy, export, or deletion of your data at any time.
6. Your rights
Under applicable law — including Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and equivalent legislation — you have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data. Write to us and we will handle your request promptly.
